Luck of the Irish

The Series That Kicked it Off

So, here's a little story for you. Once upon a time, there was a guy who had hung around and read a lot about RPGs, but before that, he was a writer, a storyteller. He heard tell of this roleplaying game thing, and very slowly started researching it, finding out about it, all of which led up to his playing in two sessions of extremely high-level 3.5 D&D, for one session with a hugely munchkinned character that had been designed by the best numbercrunchers in the group. That was interesting, but it primed him to play the next semester...

That's when he learned 4th Edition. Although that didn't last too long, either. Kinda. Things were here and there...although in a year later, he did manage to get into a campaign from the same DM. It was fun. And at the same time, this guy researched lots of other, different RPG systems, finding things he liked and disliked about them, still searching for a good way to marry mechanics and story. He's currently playing the World of Darkness system, working with Hunters to sniff out vampires, which is pretty sweet. Even sweeter? Finding the Mouse Guard system, a gem among RPGs.

Then he found the series of posts starting with the one linked above, and decided that he knew enough about RPGs to start up a blog of his own, especially because he had homebrew RPG plans up his sleeve. And the post said to see how a blog does in the three months, because that's when they tend to die out. So...

Here's a status check. Things are looking quite bright and shiny. My subscriber count tends to hover around 20, which isn't big, but it's a really nice audience, in my humble opinion. I've been racking in hits from all around the world, including places as far away as Australia and Japan. I've had a few comments. I've even been linked in another blog. I've got 40 posts under my belt. So, what does all of this mean?

I think it's been a good ride, and it's still gonna be a good ride. I like where I'm at, and hope to go even stronger. More posts, hopefully more linkage, and also more material, even, from the gaming group I'm interviewing. Thanks, to all of you readers, for following along with me, and to the Chatty DM, for being that final push of inspiration. It's been good. And it'll be so for a long time.

Oh, and a very happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you!
