Surprise, Surprise!

So, I go to my inbox this morning, and lo and behold...apparently my site got accepted to an RPG search engine.

RPG Seek

I thought that was cool, though I don't remember submitting it. May have been a while back...anyhow, give it a look! The site looks like a great resource.

Links...on a Friday??

That's right, folks. I've decided that I can chunk enough time over to posting on my regular days, as long as I keep to link posts. As for what's been going on over here, I'm designing up a website for a brand shiny new endeavor of mine. More details on that will come along over the next few weeks. Suffice it to say, it should be cool. Also, I've got my senior thesis scripted out, and ready to start filming once the student actors finish performing in Hamlet. For now, to learn the video editing software!

Before Too Much Transpires...Now the Links!
Part 2 of At-Will's series on aquatic adventuring gives a few interesting takes on combat underwater. There's definitely not a cut-and-dry solution here, but rather a toolbox of interesting options, including one rather like classic platforming games.

Dave "The Game" posts on Critical Hits, using Leverage and Mage: The Ascension together to create what appears to be a nifty hybrid, though I haven't played either system. I love seeing system tinkering, though.

Rule of the Dice starts touching on the topic of megadungeons.

Over at Campaign Mastery, have a gander at the the Undead Foe Generator, designed to give some personality to a big bad undead enemy.

Wyatt at Spirits of Eden gives us a glimpse into Copper Coins!'s fighter, which has some pretty cool features.

Links of Spring...

Yep. I dunno if I'll get next week's links around, because I'm on spring break in Mississippi with some awesome friends...but at least here's some for this week!

Though it's technically a bit old, I was referred to this outstanding piece by the Angry DM, discussing exactly what's wrong with 4th Edition (and previous edition) as regards the idea of combat resources. He strikes some very, very good points, and I think it's a must for anyone who wants to examine the game.

At-Will has a nifty write-up introducing the concept of underwater adventuring, looking at many different scopes for the adventure.

Risus Monkey's play report of a solo session of the indie game Microscope has some very interesting details, and I'm kinda curious to see the rules for myself.

Rule of the Dice notes three reasons to reconsider PBEM gaming, as a balance to the previous article on the great stuff about PBEM.

Finally, long-time favorite Eddy Webb gives his insights on what he thinks makes the social media RPG Echo so fascinating. GMs, take note!

Behold: The Links Continue!

Well, folks, another week! Fortunately for me, midterms are coming to a close, and I am muchly relieved at that. And now for you: a slew of interesting links.

Critical Hits has gathered together all of its articles on "The 5x5 Method", putting it through all sorts of paces.

The sixth entry in Campaign Mastery's Pulp Gaming series is packed full of suggestions for protagonists and antagonists in a pulp RPG. Have a look and be enlightened!

Over at Spirits of Eden, Wyatt sets forth a much darker vision of elves, who tend to be known as the squeaky-clean cupcake archers. No longer.

Eddy Webb reminds us, in the aftermath of Mike Mearls' plea for D&D unity, that businessmen are people too, addressing fans who see RPG companies' executives as nothing more than soulless money-grubbing liches. Or something to that effect.

Finally, At-Will sets forth its take on multiclassing in 4th Edition, using the new mechanic of themes.

I would also like to add that the campaign I linked earlier (to bring Firefly back) has now implemented a pledge system, and has gathered almost a million dollars to contribute to some sort of efforts to make new Firefly content. I may get very, very choked up. Might even be tears.

The Links Strike Back!

Kicking things off today with another batch of links!

Risus Monkey has a really cool tool for improvisation: you use it to generate a random handful of descriptors for a "microdungeon", which you can then stick anywhere in your campaign for the players to traverse. It also folds up into a pocket-sized booklet. Cool stuff.

Down at Campaign Mastery, there's the latest article in their "Pulp conventions" series. This time, focusing on character conventions in the pulp genre.

That Game Girl has a very simple bit of advice for aspiring GMs: keep it simple.

Old School Jump is here with a collection of responses to Mike Mearls' appeal for D&D-gamer unity.

Rounding things out, The Architect DM is back with some more advice on an interesting topic: the use of "negative space" in dungeons.

Late Linkage

Well, I'm a bit late...ah well. You'll probably find this on Sunday or Monday. Here's this week in RPG blogging...well, at least the little segment of RPG blogging that lives in my Google Reader subscriptions.

I am happy to report that, far from being in blog cryostasis, Wyatt from Spirits of Eden is up and rarin' to go with an incredibly ambitious objective: to spill out every single oodle of creativity that he's been planning. This includes all manner of stuff, like game systems, fiction...yeah. Keep posted on this. It'll be a veritable font of awesome stuff.

The Free RPG Blog has a really cool 24-Hour RPG contest that doesn't end for a while. Basically, mash up two movies and make an RPG about it. I know that I plan on submitting something. What about you?

There's a nifty post about improvisation from the Architect DM over at Critical Hits. Read it, and be inspired from a rather different persepective!

Eddy Webb, White Wolf content designer, has some thoughts about gaming with an older-styled system, and the new spins that it gives to RPGs.

Finally, I'd like to introduce all of you to Kristy, whom I met at an RPG panel held for an anime convention. She has some thoughts about music in RPGs, which give nice ground to work with.

A Slew of Links!

Well, folks, here comes the first of the Saturday link posts! Read and enjoy, because here's my mini-sampling of this week in RPG blogging! (P.S., if you have a suggestion for a blog post that I should read, or a blog I should check out, leave a note in the comments!)

From RPG Brouhaha, we have a review of the Tribe 8 RPG, a game which is pretty old, but which apparently has a very interesting backstory behind it. A thorough review, and the game itself sounds intriguing.

Digging back into personal experience, a post on Rule of the Dice tells us about "two simple rules for being a teenage game master". These rules could be well applied to all game masters, though. Read and heed!

"Visions Verbalized", from Chris Sims on Critical Hits, emphasizes the importance of focus to a game designer. It could also easily apply to any DM writing up a campaign.

Campaign Mastery comes to us with a very thorough post on how to use and bend the common story conventions of pulp stories, those dashing adventures of the 1930's and 40's. It's the latest in a rather extensive series, so be sure to read all of them!

On a sadder but very understandable note, the Spirits of Eden blog, which I've followed for some time, is going on temporary hiatus. The guy does some really cool worldbuilding, and he tipped me off to Recettear: an Item Shop's Tale, which is now one of my favorite games.

And that's all, folks! Read and enjoy, and be around for next week's batch of links!

Weddings? I Love Weddings!

Well, I may not be able to post on Friday, so I'm doing up a pre-scheduled post. If you see this post, you know that I haven't had time to get something up, because I'm off at a friend's wedding in Louisiana. So, because I'm getting ready to leave, I don't have time to do up a proper post. If I should get time, I'll obviously write up a new post...

...but if so, you wouldn't be reading this post anyway, so there's not much more to say, it seems.

In lieu of that, then, here's a sampling of links that I've scrounged up from Twitter and recent blog posts I've read...
